- The Deerheaded Chihuahua is a type of Chihuahua that does not fall into the “standard” category, and has a sloped forehead, possibly with elegant, slim and slender deer-like paws and legs, giving them the appearance of little deer, and hence, their name.

2. Chihuahuas are also typified into long-coated and short-coated ones. While both these types differ only in terms of the length of their fur, some people do believe that long-coated Chihuahuas are usually a little more reserved than short-coated ones.

3. Lastly, when it comes to appearance, Chihuahuas can also be classified into various types, depending on the color of their coats. While the “standard” Chihuahua color is fawn, you get a lot many varieties too, such as black, cream, blue, chocolate, red etc. Apart from this, Chihuahuas can also have different kinds of patterns on their fur – from spots to brindle, masks to merles, or even various tan points on their bodies.

II) Next, we check out the types of Chihuahuas in terms of Temperament. While Chihuahuas are generally considered to be possessive, yet loving creatures, they can be classified into Normal, Dominant and Submissive types. You would be wise to choose a Chihuahua that has a temperament to match yours, for otherwise it may be quite difficult for you to get along with it.

III) Finally, we have a look at the check-points when it comes to the Health of your Chihuahua, whatever type it is. Here, the dogs can be classified as “healthy” and “unhealthy”. There are certain things to be taken care of, in order to ensure that the Chihuahua you are buying or own at present is healthy and happy. You need to see that it has bright, round, protruding eyes, and clean nose, ears, teeth, gums, paws and coat. It should be playful and energetic during waking hours, and should sleep soundly, more often than being awake. After you have bought the dog, get it checked from a veterinary doctor within the next 48 hours, in order to get a refund if the little dog is not healthy enough.
