Overweight Chihuahua
The Chihuahua is a breed of dog that falls in the category of astonishingly minuscule or petite ones. You will be taken aback to see the exceptionally dainty and diminutive creatures that come under the Chihuahua banner. Chihuahuas are sweet, yet ferocious creatures, and make fantastic pets, only if you are ready to take proper care of them and give them the necessary attention.
One of the most important aspects to be taken care of is the kind of dog food that you feed your little Chi. The amount, quality and frequency are all various facets of providing your sweet little Chihuahua with healthy dog food, which must be taken into consideration for a hale and hearty, and active Chihuahua. First and foremost, you must see that your Chihuahua eats exactly 3 small meals a day; neither more, nor less. This needs to be taken care of in a very careful manner, for the main reason that while underfeeding the little dog will obviously cause malnutrition and troubles of inactivity due to hardly any energy, overfeeding will lead to obesity and inactivity too, but because of flabbiness and laziness.
You may describe a Chihuahua as ‘overweight’ if it weighs more than the usual 10 pounds, that is, 4.5 kg, which is the borderline for pet Chihuahuas. An overweight Chihuahua can have many troubles, other than mere inactivity. It will not just be unable to move more than a muscle at a time, even when it is excited, but will also be a dull and lame kind of company, apart from, most importantly, being very highly prone to various diseases and disorders that tend to afflict its kind.
Overweight Chihuahuas are, quite obviously, the result of overfeeding and inadequate exercise, which causes them to have a short life-span, and makes them susceptible to disorders like diabetes, joint injuries, collapsing of the trachea, chronic, severe bronchitis etc. While one might believe in pampering one’s dog silly, it is important for them to realize the effect of this kind of behavior. You will not give your Chihuahua a good life; rather, you will make it a dull and extremely painful affair for it, especially since the breed is characterized by a considerable amount of activity and vigor.
Hence, it is much better to feed your Chihuahua a little less, instead of giving them the trouble of being overweight Chihuahuas, and adding a lot of flab to their bodies, which will prove to be a huge burden on their puny shoulders. Overweight Chihuahuas are, in no way whatsoever, healthy Chihuahuas, and nor are they very happy ones. So see that you provide your little pets with just the perfect amount of food and exercise, and avoid creating a lumpy, lazy, sedentary old overweight Chihuahua.
