Chihuahuas are absolutely delightful little chums for anyone who loves to have pets around for company. Every moment spent with a Chihuahua is special in a most enjoyable and joyful way, and will provide you with the amazing satisfaction that only pets can provide, whether or not you are devoid of human company. Chihuahuas are essentially of two types – the long coated Chihuahua and the short coated Chihuahua.

Just by saying that Chihuahuas are of two different types, I don’t mean that they differ in terms of breed. Their only difference lies in the length of their coat hair, and probably a little bit in their natures. Hence they are judged in separate categories. It is your decision as to which type of Chihuahua you would like to have as a pet. Long coated Chihuahuas are, it is said, slightly more laid back and introvert than the short haired type of the breed. They happen to be more reserved, and even shy to an extent. This of course, does not mean that they are less active or high-strung than their short haired counterparts, just that they can be a little more manageable than them.

You might think that long coated Chihuahuas will be quite difficult to keep, when it comes to their health and other such aspects of their maintenance. However, you will definitely be pleased to know that they actually happen to shed much less than the short haired ones, and are hence much less of a pain. Other than this, they require absolutely no trimming and minimal grooming when it comes to their coats, and are therefore, less of a responsibility.

It usually takes a long coated Chihuahua around two years to develop a full long haired coat. The coat can be of any color, just as it can for short haired ones. The usual hues, however, range from the solid colors of black, chocolate, cream, red and blue, even. However, fawn is considered to be the “standard” Chihuahua color, whether long haired or short haired.

Long coated Chihuahuas need not be of a single, solid color either. Instead, their coats could be patterned in different ways, from spots to brindles to various tan points. They offer a lot of variations in terms of colors and patterns. While no hue or design of the coat of a long coated Chihuahua is considered more valuable than others, blue is considered to be relatively rare. However, it all depends on personal preference and choice.

Apart from everything else, though, long coated Chihuahuas have a cuddly, downy undercoat and soft guard hairs, which give their fur a feather-like quality, something I am absolutely sure you would never want to let go of, especially when you are tired or in need of some soft and silent camaraderie. Whatever said and done, merely holding on to a fluffy little long coated Chihuahua will provide you with great comfort and satisfaction. After all, who needs a pillow if you can get a tiny, cute long coated Chihuahua to support your head in a loving and devoted manner?
